On July 10, 2024, the Discipline Committee of the College of Early Childhood Educators found the Member guilty of professional misconduct.

The Committee found that the Member had committed several acts of professional misconduct, including:
• he engaged in a prohibited act involving child pornography;
• he acted or failed to act in a manner that, having regard to the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional;
• he contravened a law, which contravention is relevant to his suitability to hold a certificate of registration; and
• he conducted himself in a manner that is unbecoming a member.

The Committee directed the Registrar to immediately revoke the Member’s certificate of registration. The Committee also required the Member to appear before a Panel of the Discipline Committee to be reprimanded.

Decision of The Discipline Committee

On September 7, 2022, the Former Member was found guilty of one count of possession of child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (the “Code) for conduct occurring on or about January 30, 2019, in the City of Mississauga.

The Former Member was ordered to:
1) Serve two (2) years less one (1) day custodial sentence;
2) Not seek, obtain nor continue any employment, whether or not the employment is remunerated, nor become nor be a volunteer in a capacity, that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards persons under the age of 16 for a period of five (5) years;
3) Register his address and location for the next 20 years with the authorities under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (“SOIRA”);
4) Submit a DNA sample; and
5) Have the use of the Internet restricted.
